I'm sorry to the OP but I have to completely disagree with the premise of this thread. There is nothing wrong with rangers reaching out of their own class to use skills. Anet obviously agrees. Touch rangers gained prominence in Factions, but they were in use long before you had double touch skills to work with. Thumpers have been in the game for so long that Anet actually made a skill--RoA--primarily to help the thumper rangers.

I like rangers the way they are: notsigned.

i just feel this skill itself is underpowered, 10en 20recharge just on caster himself and just against touch skills

Limit Rangers to having Expertise on their own skills? Yeah dumb idea. Btw what do you mean Rangers don't play as Rangers, I see plenty of Rangers using Bow attacks, Burning/Apply is a good example of this.

well, as a ranger, i think rangers are overpowered using ranger skills but that's because i've been playing it for 2 years. (needling buff? um...ok, i'll go along with that!)

(oh, i get it....this is yet another nerf touch post)

have the people who complain about touchers actually tried playing one? you'll learn all the counters right away if you do that.

ironically, rangers are probably the least capable class for countering touchers. i've gone so far as just throwing an axe on f3 (with no points in axe) and bringing wildblow with pin down. that's generally enough to frustrate most touchers into doing something else. and yes...it's that mind-bogglingly simple.

bogglingly is not really a word and expertise isn't really a problem. well, as much a problem as a dervish with 16 strength or a monk with 16 fast-casting or mm with 16 spawning power or blah blah blah.

btw, i carry a rediculous number of bows and the staff is usually for trapping.

!!!! nerf staves!!!!

R/E or R/Rt = Forked Arrow and Dual Shot.
R/P = Spears, Conditions, and Pets.
R/W = Thump. Thump. Thump.
R/N = Touch. Touch. Touch.
R/A = You name it.
R/Me = I'm blacking out on this one. Anyone help me?
R/Mo = Conditions don't huuuuuurt me.

Seriously, the ranger has been breaking every class since it's inception.

Solution: Reduce 4% on ranger skills, 2% on other skills.

Well, my ranger uses hammer because I enjoy bunny thumping. I find too little flexibility in the game. I don't PvP, and if you want PvPers to have this restriction - y'all can sign up for it. Leave PvE out of it. Most ranger builds with a bow suck anyway (not as bad as some other games where ranged is Merely a suggestion before running away). Since most straight ranger builds do suck I see no reason for preventing the one thing that makes them useful and fun.

Dagger rangers, thumpers and touchers are not really overpowerd. No need to restrict all these people to the box. I allways like to see some out-of-the-box thinking

it's what makes a ranger fun and versatile to play. I only play PvE, and I like to use different secondary professions. Not only with my ranger mind you, but with all other classes too.
Every class has a primary attribute that has much usefullness with other secondary classes as has been said before in here. If you want to nerf Expertise, nerf all the others as well and ruin the game. Hell, might as well cancel primary attributes completely and make em available for secondary classes too. The primary attribute is the one thing that is important while chosing a class (beside the way your toon will look). Don't ever nerf that. Anet already nerfed Soul Reaping once (and then fixed it a little again, many thanks for that), and we all know what QQ-ing THAT brought along.

to be brief: rubbish! don't touch the way attributes work.

I've been playing the ranger since I started GW, I really got bored of playing with a bow all the time , So I really like playing with a Spear/Daggers whatever. (I hate the touchers tho ,_, )
